On the edge:
This new guest cottage / pool house is perched on the rocky coast of the Atlantic. The pool and gazebo are protected from the fierce coastal storms by an engineered revetment. Essentially this is a boulder slope that breaks up the force and energy of the heavy waves. Unlike most revetments, it is designed to blend with the natural rocky coast and landscape so that it anchors the site aesthetically as well as structurally. The small hilly site is
organized into useful terraces that each function as an outdoor room. The house interior is a flexible open plan that captures the view and blurs the line between interior and the landscape, the landscape and the infinity edge pool, and the pool and ocean beyond. The upland (street) side of the house is designed to blend with the historic New England community of houses.
